3 Things You Should Be Looking For In Your HVAC Unit

Any homeowner knows important it is to know when your HVAC system needs maintenance. Unfortunately, too many people ignore the system until it has serious problems and they need to replace the whole thing. Instead, it is better if you simply stay on top of it and watch for when you might have a problem and correct it before it becomes severe. Here are some tips to look for to know when you need to call for maintenance:

1. The Rooms Aren't Cooling or Heating Evenly

One of the first things you need to look for is how well each of the rooms are heating or cooling. Ideally each of the rooms should be the same temperature and they should reflect the temperature that you have on the thermostat. However, that doesn't happen when you have a problem with your HVAC system. Instead, what you will find is that one room will feel warm while the other room next to it will be a drastically different temperature. It is normal for there to be a slight difference between each floor. Like the top floor will be warmer than the basement, but you shouldn't have drastically different temperatures throughout the house. This means that the HVAC system isn't working properly and that you might need the ducts cleaned.

2. The System Is Making Noises

Another thing that you should be looking for is what kinds of noises the system is making. Usually the system should be pretty quiet. There may be a gentle humming going on, but nothing more than that. If you find that there is a clanking noise, a grinding, or if it sounds like something is moving around in the system you have a problem. You should turn off the system and not use it until you can get maintenance there.

3. Leaking Water and Condensation From The Unit

Lastly, you should be paying attention to how the unit looks and if there is any water around the unit. It is normal for there to be a little condensation around the unit while it is running, but it should be so little that it evaporates right away. The problem comes when you having pooling water around the unit. Even just a little puddle, or just water around the units base can be a problem. This  a sign that you need to call for maintenance.

If you are keeping an eye out for these signs you will be able to catch any problems before it becomes severe. Contact an air condition repair service for more information and assistance.
